What is SVP?

The Student Voice Project (SVP) is a collaboration between academic advisers and students in the UW School of Art + Art History + Design. Through events, internship opportunities, and online initiatives, SVP highlights the connection between students’ learning and experiences in the classroom and pathways towards future careers.

Students who major in art, art history and design graduate with the following:

  • Practiced problem-finding and problem-solving skills

  • Expertise in visual literacy

  • Polished presentation and communication skills
  • Collaboration and leadership experience

  • Research methods and the ability to complete resulting projects

  • Motivated for and by critical feedback

  • Ability to network, create, and engage in community

SVP Events 2022-23

Each quarter we offer in-person and online events to connect students with alumni, UW campus partners, and other resources in the Seattle area.

Check out the activities planned for Autumn 2022 on our SVP Events page.

Alumni Voices

The School's alumni go on to do creative, innovative work with their degrees in art, art history or design. In addition to hosting quarterly events where students can connect with alumni, the School highlights amazing alumni stories and professional experiences through short video interviews.

SVP Student Internship Opportunities

The Advising Office oversees the following internships (2-3 credits per quarter) for majors in art, art history or design. For more information on current or upcoming internships, stop by the Advising Office in Room 104 Art Building, or email uaskart@uw.edu

Gallery Coordinator Positions

The School of Art + Art History + Design, in partnership with Housing and Food Services, has offered the walls of Parnassus Cafe as a space for students to exhibit their work for decades. This year, in addition to curating the cafe walls, the SVP Student Gallery Curators will organize shows in sections of Room 120, where SVP events and activities are held throughout the year.

SVP Free Materials Library Monitor Positions

The Free Materials Library (FML), located in Room 318 on the third floor of the Art Building, is a space where students can access supplies for their art, art history and design classes. New, lightly used, and recycled supplies are generously donated by students, alumni, community members and local organizations to help support our community of artists, designers, and art historians. Monitors are present during open hours to answer questions, organize and run the space, and update the UW Free Materials Library Instagram account.

If you have questions or are interested in getting involved with SVP, please don’t hesitate to email Katie Twiss.
